Gorgeous renovation of a Jayco Starcraft 15ft pop-top caravan
I’m very excited to introduce our next caravan renovation to you, the wonderful Willow, by wanda_ful.vans.
I’ve featured a lot of vintage caravan renovations over the years, but Willow is a ‘young’ 1993 Jayco Starcraft 15ft pop-top caravan.
Kelly and Phil purchased her in late 2021 and thankfully, she was in pretty good shape with no real damage.
So they set about totally transforming her.
Take a look…
Willow’s layout was not particularly functional with 2 single beds (in an L shape) at one end; and Kelly and Phil struggled for awhile to decide how to organise the layout so that it would still feel spacious inside.
They decided to do away with the odd single beds configuration and make a queen size east/west bed at one end.
The other question was whether it would just be a couples retreat, or whether they would try to incorporate bunks to make it family friendly.
The design they came up with fulfills both, beautifully!
The lower bunk has plenty of head room so that it can be utilised as a couch during the day, and helps to maintain the spaciousness. The bunk above is a permanent fixture but high enough to be out of the way, while still allowing enough room for the top bunk when the pop top is up.
The kitchen has a tonne of wow factor!
With the sage green lower cabinets co-ordinating perfectly with the wooden benchtops, they are a stand out feature that makes the kitchen look like it’s destined for Instagram and Pinterest glory!
While the vivid white upper cabinets seem to disappear, making the area look open and uncluttered.
They also opted for removing the cooktop as they felt the overall size of the van was too small and the mess/smells of inside cooking were unwanted. Not adding a dining table has certainly helped to keep that open space feel.
Now with the big bed, bunks, couches and a well designed kitchen, the interior of Willow accommodates a family without everyone tripping over each other.
This gorgeous renovation took them about 4 months to complete, including the Christmas break when Phil was off work, and the work came in at a very reasonable $2,500. Of course, that is because they did all the labour themselves.
They used Willow for a few trips, since she was very comfortable and cosy, and easy to tow; but they had always intended to ‘flip’ and they sold her later in 2022.
If you love this one as much as I do, then you are totally in luck. Kelly & Phils next project is a 1986 Toyota Coaster bus that is almost complete, and they share all the building process on their Instagram.
Don’t get your hopes up about the Coaster being a ‘flip’ though, they’re planning to hang on to the bus for some travels of their own.
